The earthquake Commission get a free response

The Wider Earthquake Communities Action Network of Canterbury put in the OIA request seeking information about earthquake recovery, string embroidery and the EQC said it would charge $24,000 for it.

Labour's newly appointed EQC spokesman, Clayton Cosgrove, says WECAN has no money and can't pay for the information.

"As an MP the Ombudsman has ruled I am entitled to OIAs free of charge," he said on Friday.

"I've spoken to WECAN's Sarah O'Brien, she has given me her OIA and I will lodge it with the EQC as soon as possible."

Mr Cosgrove says he's extending his offer to other community advocacy groups that are being charged for OIAs.

"The people of Canterbury have a right to answers without being handed a bill a lawyer would be proud of," he said.

"I will do my best to get that information for them case for samsung galaxy."

Mr Cosgrove has taken over as EQC spokesman from Lianne Dalziel, because she is standing for the Christchurch mayoralty.

The duties have been split, nu skin hk and Ruth Dyson has taken over as Canterbury earthquake recovery spokeswoman.
